LAZOCIN is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, and Piperacillin-Tazobactam, a powerful beta-lactam combination. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.

LAZOCIN is available in tablet, suspension, and injection forms, including combinations with Clavulanic Acid and Sulbactam, which enhance its effectiveness against resistant bacteria.

Indications

LAZOCIN is highly effective in treating mild to severe bacterial infections, including:

Respiratory Tract Infections – Treats pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis caused by bacterial pathogens.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Effective for bladder infections and pyelonephritis.
Skin & Soft Tissue Infections – Used for cellulitis, wound infections, and abscesses.
Bone & Joint Infections – Helps in osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
Intra-Abdominal Infections – Covers peritonitis, abdominal abscesses, and post-surgical infections.
Septicemia & Bloodstream Infections – Provides strong coverage against bacteremia and sepsis.
Gynecological Infections – Treats pelvic inflammatory disease and postpartum infections.

The combination formulations with Clavulanic Acid, Sulbactam, and Tazobactam improve the drug’s ability to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

Dosage varies based on infection severity, patient’s age, and kidney function.

Mild to Moderate Infections (Oral Tablets):

  • Cefuroxime 250-500 mg twice daily for 7-10 days.
  • Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid Combination: One tablet every 12 hours for complicated infections.

Severe Infections (IV/IM Injections):

  • Cefuroxime-Sulbactam (LAZOCIN S-1500): Administer every 8-12 hours.
  • Piperacillin-Tazobactam (LAZOCIN – 1125 & FORTE): IV every 6-8 hours, based on severity.

 Pediatric Patients:

  • Suspension (Cefuroxime 125 mg/5ml): Dose depends on weight and severity.

Patients with Kidney Impairment:

  • Dosage should be adjusted based on creatinine clearance levels.

Important: Always complete the full treatment course to prevent antibiotic resistance.
