ALICIP® is a pharmaceutical product containing Ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic renowned for its efficacy against a wide range of bacterial infections. Ciprofloxacin operates by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby halting bacterial proliferation.

Indications:

ALICIP® is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Such as acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and pneumonia.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Including cystitis and pyelonephritis.
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Like cellulitis and wound infections.
  • Bone and Joint Infections: Such as osteomyelitis.
  • Gastrointestinal Infections: Including infectious diarrhea.
  • Typhoid Fever: Caused by Salmonella typhi.
  • Prostatitis: Bacterial inflammation of the prostate gland.
  • Anthrax (Post-Exposure): To reduce the incidence or progression of disease following exposure to Bacillus anthracis.
Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of ALICIP® should be individualized based on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as renal function. It is imperative to adhere to the prescribing physician’s instructions or consult the product’s prescribing information for detailed dosage guidelines. Ciprofloxacin is available in various forms, including tablets and intravenous infusions.

Precautions and Advisory:
  • Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the formulation.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Discontinue use if the patient experiences symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, including pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness
  • QT Prolongation: Ciprofloxacin may prolong the QT interval in some patients. Avoid use in patients with known QT prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte disorders, or those on medications that prolong the QT interval.
  • Myasthenia Gravis: May exacerbate muscle weakness in persons with myasthenia gravis. Avoid use in patients with a known history of myasthenia gravis.
  • Drug Interactions: Ciprofloxacin can interact with various drugs, including theophylline, warfarin, tizanidine, and antacids containing magnesium or aluminum. Review all medications the patient is taking to assess potential interactions.
  • Used in Pregnancy and Lactation: Ciprofloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.

Patients are advised to complete the full course of therapy as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before completion. If an allergic reaction or significant adverse effect occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.
